Identify Your Skin Type Before You Treat It

What is your Skin Type?

You may have a different skin than your friends, so understand your skin type before you use the product recommended by them. Here is a quick guide on how to recognise your skin type and measure treatments for related problems wisely.

Oily

If your skin becomes shiny and greasy during the day, you have an oily skin. You should frequently use a cleanser to unclog the pores and reduce oil production. Also make sure to pick an oil-free moisturiser for your skin as it produces more oil when it’s not properly hydrated.

Dry

If your skin feels tight and rough thoughout the day, you have dry skin. You may also notice redness or flakes on your skin, especially as soon as you wake up.  Nourish skin with a face cleanser that has hydrating essential oils and use a hydrating oil-rich moisturizer.

Sensitive

If your skin is easily irritated and prone to occasional breakouts or rashes, you have sensitive skin.  You should be extra careful about everything you apply to your skin. Use gentle products that include natural ingredients. Avoid touching your skin too often.

Normal

If your skin has an even tone and texture with small pores and if it doesn’t produce too much oil or develop flakes, you have normal skin. Use a general cleanser and moisturizer daily.

Combination

It is possible for a person to have more than one type of skin and such a type of skin is called the combination skin. You may have dry skin on certain areas and oily skin on others.  If that is the case, treat every region according to its skin type.

Know Your Type

Every skin product is either suitable for normal skin type or comes with labels specifying the kind of skin it is suitable for. Make sure you know your skin type before you purchase skin care product. For example, a skin care product for dry skin used on oily skin can make the skin even more oily.

Avoid Unnecessary Make up

Once you know your skin type, plan your skin care approach based on the type. Also avoid unnecessary skin care products or make up as it will allow your skin to naturally repair itself.
